Comiss/JCAPS 1997 Standards
Crosswalked to the
Joint Commission Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals,
1998
Interpretation Notes
When reviewing this crosswalk, keep in mind that the preparation process is a
subjective one open to the preparers interpretation of both the Joint
Commission standards and the material to which the standards are being compared. This
Crosswalk has not been reviewed by JCAPS.
- Joint Commission Hospital standards do not address the level of detail that JCAPS
standards do in regard to Pastoral Services. Some of the details may be addressed in the
intent statements which are scored along with the standards or in the examples which are
designed to illustrate implementation strategies, activities, or processes. Other details
may be addressed during the survey process (for example, through interviews, document
review, patient care setting visits, and observations made while touring the health care
organization[s]). The standards themselves intentionally do not cover such detail so as
not to be prescriptive, redundant, or contradictory to other requirements or standards.
- Since the Joint Commission takes a functional approach to organizing standards, the
JCAPS standards crosswalk to multiple Joint Commission functions and standards.
- A notation under th Joint Commission column may indicate "Not applicable." In
these cases, there are no standards in the Joint Commission Comprehensive Accreditation
Manual for Hospitals with which the JCAPS standards can be readily associated.
- Overall, JCAPS standards were far more prescriptive than JCAHO standards regarding
Pastoral Services. Most of the concepts of the JCAPS standards were generically addressed
in the JCAHO standards, intents, and examples. However, the JCAHO standards are functional
and address the hospital as a whole rather than as separate departments, such as a
Pastoral Services Department.
Here is an example of how you
might use this crosswalk in your own preparation for JCAHO. |
